Geocaching Program
Back when I heard about Geocaching I couldn't wait to try it out! Scouting around outside for hidden "treasures" sounded right up my alley except for the cost of GPS devices (at the time). I had a Pocket PC PDA and found a decently priced bluetooth GPS reciever that could interface with my PDA. The bluetooth reciever was a fraction of the cost of a full blown GPS device and it allowed me to write and tailor a Geocaching program to my liking (a month later I was geocaching). Geocaching

PDA Program

To the right is the PDA geocaching program. The main screen contains a list of geocaches that have been imported from www.geocaching.com. The screen allows you to group caches and hide caches that have been found. From this screen you can access the GPS configuration screen which allows you to scan the serial ports and test the located GPS device. Selecting a cache from the main screen will take you to caching caching form. The caching form gives you access to the cache's details, waypoints, an active plot of you vs the cache, note writing and averaging configuration. The waypoint screen allows you to tweak the latitude and longitude values as well as create new waypoints for multi-caches. The plot screen is where you will spend most of your time. The screen displays your location in reference to the geocache (the geocache is at the center of the screen). If your dot is to the right of the cache, you will need to go west the number of feet that is reported in the upper left. The screen can be zoomed and trails can be turned on to track your location as you look for the cache. This is also a notes screen that allows you to write any notes you should need to take. In difficult locations the GPS signal my "jump" making it difficult to locate a cache. The averaging screen helps remove the jumps by taking an average reading and using that as your location.

PC Manager

The PC Manager helps you manage caches, notes, photos as well as sync these items with the PDA. You will not need to worry about loosing the caching data off your PDA because this application will sync data from the PDA with the master database on the PC.

A future release will pull in free topographic maps to help you find the best parking spot.
